Kristen creates soothingly simple paintings as a way of processing and counterbalancing the complexity of emotional and physical experience. Always investigating the intersection of calm and wakefulness, their process is inspired by meditation, instinct, natural rhythms, and synchronicities that arise from being present. Their hope is that the compositions of shape and color offer curiosity, familiarity, and centeredness to the viewer.
Kristen is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ypsilanti, Michigan. They received a BFA from Eastern Michigan University in 2012. They are the founder and designer of Worthwhile Paper, a line of screen printed, thoughtfully crafted paper goods and gifts, and the author of a writing series on substack about creative practice as a practice for self-discovery called Field of Visions.
