FROM THE BEGINNING
The goal of this expansion was to create more studio space for art activities (events, classes, exhibitions) in an accessible, welcoming, and creative environment for all for decades to come. How did we get here?
In 2013, demand for art and art experiences began to grow.
In 2017, the waitlist for classes and events exceeded 800 individuals.
In 2018, the A2AC had the opportunity to acquire the building directly next door and immediately launched the Capital Expansion Campaign to raise funds allowing us to own, connect, and renovate the two buildings.
February 2022, we proudly own both buildings mortgage-free and are actively working to connect and fully renovate them.
Upon completion (May 2022), we will have FOUR new art education studios (including a second ceramics studio!) and TWO new art exhibitions spaces!
We are 95% of the way there, and the finish line is clearly within our sight—will you help us cross it?
ENHANCING YOUR EXPERIENCE
In addition to expanding to meet the ever-growing demand for art, the A2AC welcomed this unique opportunity to tackle much-needed building infrastructure improvements. Deliberate and thoughtfully selected, these improvements enhance the experience for all community members: artists, teachers, students, staff, and patrons alike. Upgrades fell within three categories:
ACCESSIBILITY
- Wayfinding to easily navigate the buildings
- Ramps and stairs connecting the buildings on the first and second floors
- Modernized our 40+-year-old elevator for safe and dependable access to all three levels
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- A new HVAC system that utilizes a combination of forced air and radiant heat to deliver continuously conditioned air throughout the buildings
- Seven, ADA-compliant, touchfree restrooms to mitigate the spread of germs
- Updated fire suppression and enhanced building security
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
- In addition to high-efficiency heating and cooling capabilities, both buildings have new roofs to prevent heat loss and leaks, ensuring the preservation of our historic buildings
- Increased power supply to efficiently support new equipment
- New LED lighting to enhance light quality and reduce heat generation
