The Kid’s Table

October 23 – December 17, 2019

This exhibition features two specific workshops from The Kids’ Table, a yearlong curriculum designed to empower CAN’s young people to take ownership of their relationship with food and to experience how creating, discovering, and sharing food can build community locally and globally. The first workshop asked students to reflect on their memories of special, home-cooked meals with their families. These stories are reflected through watercolor paintings. The second encouraged students to study food in the most detailed way possible, by drawing exactly what they observed.

Through these series of art workshops, children reflect on their relationship with food, learn practical food skills and knowledge, discover and share their favorite flavor profiles.

CAN Art & Design is a free after-school and summer art & design program for youth in the Washtenaw County, Michigan area. A subsidiary program of Community Action Network (CAN), they currently operate in five sites: Mitchell and Brick Elementary Schools, and Green Baxter Court, Hikone, and Bryant Community Centers.
