Clay Camp | Ages 9-12
Our Clay Camp curriculum is designed to teach pottery skills and to encourage the exploration of clay as a material for design, sculpture, and expression. Each week, campers learn to throw on the wheel in the mornings. Campers learn various hand-building techniques to create stunning sculptures, tiles, or functional items in the afternoons.
- All students in Clay Camp will be in the same group.
- Drop-off Time | 8:40am – 9:00am
- Pick-up Time | 4:00pm – 4:20pm
Tuition: $455/week

We do not make exceptions to the minimum age required to be in a given group.
Week 3 is a 3-Day camp due to the 4th of July Holiday. Due to the short week, students will create hand building projects only. They will not use the pottery wheel. | Tuition for this camp is $273.

SPRING BREAK: WHEEL THROWING & NATURE’S PALETTE
MARCH 24 – MARCH 28
Spring is here, and so is a world of clay-filled creativity inspired by nature! Campers will explore how can bring the colors, textures, and shapes of the spring season to life as they:
- Use natural materials to create textured imprints in clay
- Sculpt a nature-inspired candle holder with elements like vines or flowers to represent spring’s renewal
- Design and sculpt a miniature bird bath
WEEK 1: WHEEL THROWING & COLOR LAB
JUNE 16 – JUNE 20
Discover the vibrant beauty of color in clay! Campers will explore how color and clay interact to create visual contrast, harmony, and evoke emotions:
- Sculpt a vessel and paint it with a gradient ombre effect, moving from one color at the base to another at the top
- Create a lidded vessel with a monochromatic exterior and burst of color inside
- Use handbuilding methods to sculpt a work inspired by the playful, colorful artwork of Yayoi Kusama
WEEK 2: WHEEL THROWING & MAGICAL CREATAURES & WORLDS
JUNE 23 – JUNE 27
Uncover secrets of enchanting realms! Embark on a journey through fantastical landscapes, encounter mythical creatures, and explore the boundless magic of creativity. Campers will uncover secrets of mystical realms as they:
- Use handbuilding methods to craft an enchanted castle
- Sculpt a unique mythical creature
- Create a vessel inspired by the form and grandeur of a royal crown
WEEK 3: HANDBUILDING: LIGHT IT UP! (3-DAY CAMP WEEK)
JUNE 30 – JULY 3
Get ready to shine bright in our exciting 3-Day handbuilding Clay Camp! Campers will learn handbuilding techniques to create stunning projects that glow and cast enchanting shadows. Campers will:
- Craft luminary lanterns with cut-out designs to cast unique and mesmerizing shadows
- Design and sculpt a unique candelabra
*Important notes for this 3-Day Handbuilding Camp: Due the short week, campers will create handbuilding projects only. They will not be using the pottery wheel.
WEEK 4: WHEEL THROWING & INTERACTIVE ART & TOYS
JULY 7 – JULY 11
Throughout this action-packed week, campers will explore the joy of creating interactive art with clay! Campers will transform clay into fun, interactive creations that invites movement and play. Campers will:
- Design and create a one-of-a-kind puzzle using hand building techniques
- Use pinch pot and coil methods to create a series of nesting dolls
WEEK 5: WHEEL THROWING & THE ARTIST’S TOOLBOX
JULY 14 – JULY 18
Art materials are the building blocks of every masterpiece, shaping an artist’s creative style and personal expression. This week, campers will sculpt their own art tools and reimagine classic materials by:
- Sculpting a personalized paint palette
- Building a pencil holder using coil techniques, crafted to resemble a giant pencil
- Sculpting a realistic, classic art tool with special attention to proportion and texture
WEEK 6: WHEEL THROWING & COMICS & CHARACTERS
JULY 21 – JULY 25
Join us on a clay adventure in comics and character creation! This week, campers will breathe life into their clay creations through character design and storytelling as they:
- Create a bas-relief tile that includes a dynamic comic speech bubble
- Sculpt a ceramic bust of a favorite character
- Create a set of tiles with characters and scenes that can be arranged to form different comic stories, promoting interactive storytelling
WEEK 7: WHEEL THROWING & FOOD FOR THOUGHT
JULY 28 – AUGUST 1
Get ready to explore the art of food through clay! This week, campers will give their sculptures plenty of flavor as we explore culinary inspired creativity. Campers will make fantastic food-themed sculptures such as:
- A realistic plate of their favorite meal, emphasizing scale, form, and texture to make it truly lifelike
- A handbuilt lidded vessel designed to resemble a delicious food
- Design and sculpt a salt and pepper shaker
WEEK 8: WHEEL THROWING & MONSTER MAKERS
AUGUST 4 – AUGUST 8
Bring fantastical creatures to life through the art of clay! From quirky critters to fearsome beasts, campers will explore what makes monsters unique, experimenting with form, texture, and details to create clay monsters. Campers will:
- Use pinchpot techniques to form a monster egg that is hatching a creature
- Create a dish or tray with monster features, perfect for serving up spooky treats
- Sculpt a functional pot or bowl with monster limbs, tentacles, or claws wrapping around the outside
WEEK 9: WHEEL THROWING & WILDLIFE WONDERS
AUGUST 11 – AUGUST 15
Calling all animal lovers and budding sculptors! Get ready to dive into the wild and wonderful world of wildlife. Campers will have the chance to bring their favorite animals, real and imaginary, to life. Campers will:
- Design and sculpt a representation of an Alebrije, brightly colored and boldly patterned Mexican folk art sculptures of fantastical creatures
- Create a vibrant habitat diorama showcasing local wildlife and their ecosystems
- Sculpt a miniature figure of a larger than life animal. Giver consideration to scale, proportion, texture
WEEK 10: WHEEL THROWING & OUTER SPACE EXPLORERS
AUGUST 18 – AUGUST 22
Prepare for liftoff! Explore distant galaxies and cosmic creatures – all through the art of clay. Campers will let their imaginations soar through the cosmos, discovering new worlds and bringing space-inspired visions to life. Our jou:
- Design and sculpt their own unique U.F.O.
- Create a highly textured bas-relief tile that captures the beauty of distant planets, shimmering stars, and swirling galaxies.
- Use handbuilding techniques, craft a ceramic shadowbox that depicts a captivating celestial landscape.
