This summer, join fellow art enthusiasts on ARTBus as we head to Detroit for a day of exclusive tours and experiences. We’ll visit the Detroit Institute of Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Library Street Collective, The Belt alley, and Wasserman Projects. You and your friends will check out the most talked-about exhibitions of the season, meet gallery directors and curators, and get an insider’s view of Detroit’s flourishing art scene.

Sit back and relax – let us get you there in style! We will travel to Detroit on a luxury motor coach with spacious and comfortable seating.

Tickets are $125 and include round-trip transportation, light refreshments prior to departure (many thanks to Zingerman’s!), lunch in downtown Detroit, and a number of exclusive art experiences. ARTBus tickets are non-refundable and proceeds benefit the Ann Arbor Art Center. Itinerary

First Stop: Detroit Institute of Arts

First Stop: Detroit Institute of Arts

Once in Detroit, we'll start the day with a docent-led tour of the Detroit Institute of Arts' permanent collection followed by independent exploration of the DIA. The featured exhibition, From Camelot to Kent State: Pop Art, 1960-1975, includes seventy-three prints, drawings, multiples, and sculpture and highlights artists you're sure to recognize - Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, and more.

Second Stop: Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD)

After lunch, we'll tour the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) and Frank Kelly's Mobile Homestead. You'll enjoy KAWS: ALONE AGAIN, the exhibition of Brooklyn-based artists, KAWS.

Third Stop: Library Street Collective

Next, we'll head to the Library Street Collective for a tour of depersonalization-derealization, the latest work of Jason Revok.

Fourth Stop: The Belt Alley

Weather permitting, we will head to The Belt - a culturally redefined alley in the heart of downtown Detroit.

Final Stop: Wasserman Projects

Before we head back to Ann Arbor, Wasserman Projects director, Alison Wong, will meet with us for a brief conversation and private tour of the exhibition that features Maritza Caneca, Jack Henry, and Scott Hocking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are we meeting in the morning?

Please arrive at the Ann Arbor Art Center by 9:00am. We hope to have everyone on the bus and ready to leave by 9:15. The Art Center will be open at 8:00am and have coffee and pastries from Zingerman’s for your enjoyment prior to boarding the bus.

Where should I park for the day?

If you live nearby, your best option may be to take a rideshare such as Modecar, Lyft or Uber.

If you choose to drive to the Art Center in the morning, you can park in any public parking lot or parking garage and pay the hourly rate.

What should I wear?

Dress appropriately for the weather. We will be doing a bit of walking so wear comfortable shoes.

What if it rains?

The ArtBus tour is rain or shine. If the forecast calls for rain, be sure to bring your umbrella!

Do the galleries allow us to bring in outside drinks?

Most galleries will ask you to dispose of your drink before entering or are willing to hold it behind the desk until the end of your visit.

Can I leave things on the bus during the tours?

Yes. The bus will be attended at all times. However, please try to pack as lightly as possible and avoid carrying unnecessary belongings into the galleries.

Can I take photographs of the art?

Most galleries do allow photography, but be sure to check with the gallery staff before taking any photographs. If you share your photos on social media, be sure to tag us @a2artcenter and #a2artcenter.

When do we return to Ann Arbor?

We plan to leave Detroit from the Wasserman Project by 4:15pm and return to the Art Center around 5:00pm.
