Artist Statement

Lawrence Hamilton’s photography examines everyday reality from a slightly different perspective. As a self-taught photographer with over 40 years of experience in the architectural field, his photographic process is a blend of technical precision and artistic intuition. Lawrence harnesses the interplay of light and shadow, lines and shapes, to create compositions that challenge the viewer’s perception of the familiar. The Ann Arbor Abstractions photography exhibit offers a unique perspective on the architectural diversity of Ann Arbor, Michigan, encompassing both historical and modern structures. Through this collection of slightly abstract photographs, the artist invites you to explore the city’s vibrant tapestry of colors, shapes, and intricate details in a whole new light.
